Parking
We would like to take the opportunity to remind our parents about the procedures we have in place at St. Teresa of Avila in order to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. We would like to thank our parents and caregivers who walk or park in the legally designated areas and those who are using our Drop and Go Lane appropriately. The following four points are areas we ask everyone to adhere to.
1. At no time should children be walking alone through the parking lot. Please use the Drop and Go Lane or the parking we have adjacent to a sidewalk. Children must have immediate and safe access to a sidewalk upon exiting a vehicle. We want to avoid having parents usher their children through a busy parking lot. Safety must come before convenience. Please, if you need to exit your vehicle do not use staff parking.
2. Reduce speeds through the parking lot. In the past, we’ve experienced a number of vehicles using excessive speed through the Drop and Go Lane. City bylaws specify a maximum speed of 15 km/h in parking lots unless otherwise posted.
3. Use the Drop and Go Lane appropriately. The appropriate practice is to move forward in sequence as space makes itself available. Leaving large gaps between vehicles reduces the number of cars that can get into line and increases the number of vehicles having to circle the parking lot. Parents are not permitted to park and leave their vehicle unattended in the Drop and Go Lane. Creating a daily demonstration of respect and consideration for others will ensure a calm and safe environment for everyone. When entering the Drop and Go Lane from the street, please do not block the traffic flow on Glendale Boulevard.
4. Please keep the accessible/handicap stalls vacant for vehicles transporting children with mobility challenges. We recognize that visitors to our school with placards will require these spaces at times but under no circumstances should others use these stalls out of convenience.
Most importantly, parents should be patient, respectful, and courteous to other drivers while they drop off and pick up their children from school. Anger and frustration can lead to careless, unsafe behavior, and being a positive role model can help students learn safe procedures.
