Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Staggered Entry Information 2020-2021

August 21, 2020

Dear Parents,
Re: Early Learning Information 2020-2021

We are excited to welcome back our St.Teresa of Avila families for the 2020-2021
school year! While we know that this year may look different from others, we are
confident that safety measures have been put in place to ensure a safe environment for
all. We will do our best to ease your child into their new classroom in a safe, but caring
way. Our division theme is, ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart’ and we will rely on this
theme to guide our school year.

We thank you for your patience as we navigate the new circumstances and protocols
while offering your child the opportunity to grow and flourish as they enter school. Below

During these staggered entry days, in order to help with the transition please meet your
child’s teacher at their grade-level entryway where you will see hula hoops on the
ground; Pre-Kindergarten entry is on the north side of the school with 5 blue hula hoops
and Kindergarten entry is on the north east of the school with 5 red hula hoops. Parent
and child will find a hula hoop to stand in and wait for the teacher to greet them and
welcome the child into the school. We envision this as a very brief exchange. At this
time, the parent will then leave and the child will go into the building. If all hula hoops
are taken when they arrive, please stand a ways away or wait in your vehicle until one
becomes available.

We have adjusted our start time for Pre-K and Kindergarten by 5 minutes to allow for
the greater ease of traffic flow and parking. This will help a bit, however we know that
we still have a very busy parking lot. Your child’s teacher will dismiss students from their
entry way at the end of the day. Please come dressed for any weather as we will be
starting each day outside. We ask that you maintain social distancing protocols during
this outside drop off and pick up time. We also ask parents to please consider wearing a
mask. Staff will also wear masks.

Although we know that this might be difficult, it will be at this outside location where you
will say goodbye to your child before they enter school as parents will not be permitted
to enter the school. While we understand that this might not have been what you
envisioned for your child’s first school experience, we thank you for working alongside
us to ensure that the safety of all students in our school is a priority.

Please note that there will be no Meet the Staff evening or Parent Meeting this school
year as was mentioned in the letter that was sent home in June. Your child’s teacher will
make contact with you by the end of the day on August 28th to let you know which
supplies they will require for your child’s first day. We also remind you that masks are
not mandatory in school for students in Pre-K to Grade 3, however are recommended if
your child will be riding the bus to and from school. The link to the RDCRS
Parent/Student Handbook can be found here and is being updated as we learn new
information or as directives from our government or Chief Medical Officer change.

Please do not hesitate to contact our school office if you have any additional questions
or concerns.

Yours in Catholic Education,

J. Nicole Zimmerman                                             Chris McCullough
